RND Director Vikram Raje Bhosale said that River Navigation Minister Subhash Phal Desai is actively coordinating with the Centre to speed up the implementation of the water metro project. The state government hopes that early submission of the DPR will help secure funding and fast-track the project.

In November 2025, Kochi Metro Rail Limited carried out a detailed survey at 28 locations across Goa as part of a feasibility study for the proposed water-based public transport system. The study aimed to identify suitable routes and assess passenger demand for a future network of water taxis and ferry services throughout the state.

Based on the survey findings, the Kochi Metro team identified eight feasible routes covering nearly 111 kilometres. These routes include connections between Panaji and Narve, Betim and Old Goa, Old Goa and Sarmanas, Vasco and Cortalim, Cortalim and Durbhat, Old Goa and Cumbarjua, Panaji-Dona Paula-Vasco, and Panaji-Chapora.

A ninth route is also being considered. It would include a sea route connecting Chapora with Keri and Tiracol. If implemented, the water metro project is expected to improve connectivity, reduce road congestion, and provide a new mode of public transport for residents and tourists across Goa.
