Yellow Alert in Delhi

The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued a yellow alert; people should stay updated about weather conditions. The weather forecast predicts generally cloudy skies with light to very light rain at intervals. There may also be thunderstorms, lightning, and strong winds blowing at 20-30 km/h, with gusts up to 40 km/h, especially during the evening and night.

Rain Alert in the Coming Days

The IMD also shared that this wet weather is likely to continue across northwest India for the rest of the week, and the most intense is expected on April 3 and 4. This sudden weather change brought a few days of mixed conditions, light rain, and short periods of heat, keeping temperatures fairly comfortable.

Reason Behind the Weather Change

The main reason for this changing weather is an active western disturbance. This is a weather system that forms over the Mediterranean region and moves towards India, bringing rain and strong winds. During the afternoon, different parts of Delhi recorded light rainfall. Safdarjung received 2.1 mm of rain, Palam got 2.6 mm, Lodi Road recorded 2.8 mm, Ridge had 2.4 mm, and Ayanagar received 2.2 mm. Among other areas, Janakpuri recorded the highest rainfall at 4 mm. Pusa and Mayur Vihar each received 2 mm, while Pitampura recorded 1.5 mm.

Despite the rain, temperatures remained slightly above normal. Safdarjung recorded 33.7°C, Palam and Lodi Road both recorded 33.2°C, Ridge 33.9°C, and Ayanagar recorded 33.8°C.
