The Northeast Frontier Railway has announced the extension and introduction of special trains to handle the rising number of passengers and improve travel connectivity across different regions of the country.

Bengaluru-Katihar Weekly Special Train
According to an official statement, the weekly special train service No. 06571/06572 between Yesvantpur Junction and Katihar has been extended for 15 more trips in both directions to reduce overcrowding and strengthen travel connections between southern and eastern India. It will benefit passengers from states like Karnataka, Andhra Pradesh, Odisha, West Bengal, and Bihar, while also improving access for people travelling to and from the Northeast. Train No. 06571 from Yesvantpur Junction to Katihar will run every Tuesday from April 7 to July 14, 2026. The return train, No. 06572 from Katihar to Yesvantpur Junction, will run every Friday from April 10 to July 17, 2026. These trains will operate with the same schedule, timings, stops, and coach arrangements as before.
Santragachi-Naharlagun Special Train
Moreover, NFR will run another special train service, No. 08047/08048, between Santragachi and Naharlagun for 12 trips. Train No. 08047 will leave Santragachi every Friday evening from April 10 to June 26, 2026, and reach Naharlagun the next day. On the return journey, Train No. 08048 will depart from Naharlagun every Saturday night from April 11 to June 27, 2026, and arrive at Santragachi on Monday morning. This train will stop at important stations such as Bardhaman, Malda Town, Siliguri Junction, Kokrajhar, Rangiya, and Rangapara North. It will include AC 2-tier, AC 3-tier, and sleeper class coaches.
NFR stated that these special trains will offer more travel options, reduce crowding on busy routes, and help passengers travelling for summer holidays, exams, or medical purposes. Moreover, passengers are advised to check the complete details on the IRCTC website for the latest updates.
