The Mira-Bhayandar region is set to experience better traffic flow with the completion of a second flyover bridge (FOB) from S.K. Stone to Shivar Garden along Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Marg in Mira Road. This bridge is ready for public use, but its opening is waiting for an official inauguration.

Maharashtra's Chief Minister, Devendra Fadnavis, is expected to conduct the inauguration, but the date has not been finalized due to his busy schedule. Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik confirmed that while some minor finishing work is being done, it will not delay the opening. The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has sent a request to the Chief Minister to confirm his availability for the event.
Part of a Bigger Plan to Reduce Traffic
The new flyover is part of a larger traffic management plan by MMRDA. This plan includes building three flyover bridges, each about 5.5 meters above the existing road level, to ensure smooth traffic movement. The first bridge, connecting Pleasant Park and Silver Park, was inaugurated by former Chief Minister Eknath Shinde in September 2024. The third flyover, connecting S.K. Stone and Golden Nest, is also in its final stages of construction and will be completed soon.
Big Relief for Commuters
The introduction of these flyovers is expected to save commuters around 15 to 20 minutes of travel time. Currently, residents of Mira-Bhayandar face daily struggles with traffic jams, overcrowded local trains, and limited public transport options. The area also lacks metered auto-rickshaws and cabs, making these flyovers a necessary improvement for daily travel.
A Modern Infrastructure Approach
MMRDA is using a modern "double-decker viaduct" design, inspired by the Nagpur model. This design includes two levels-one for vehicles and another for Metro Line-9, which will connect Dahisar to Mira-Bhayandar. The metro will have ten elevated stations, making travel faster and more convenient for residents.
Awaiting the Chief Minister's Availability
Transport Minister Pratap Sarnaik expressed confidence that the minor remaining work on the bridge would not delay the inauguration. "Some minor residual works are being completed, however, that will not affect the inauguration in any manner. The MMRDA sent a letter to the Chief Minister on Thursday seeking his time for the inauguration. Once the Chief Minister conveys his availability, the inauguration ceremony will be scheduled accordingly," he stated.
This new infrastructure is a major step in solving Mira-Bhayandar's traffic problems. The government's focus on flyovers and metro expansion aims to provide a smoother, faster, and more comfortable journey for residents. Once the Chief Minister confirms his schedule, the much-awaited flyover will finally be opened for public use, bringing a positive change to daily commuting in the region.
