The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority is planning to open the first section of Metro Line 9, part of the Dahisar-Mira Bhayandar corridor, on April 7. This project has been delayed several times, but now the initial stretch will finally be available for public use. Senior officials confirmed that

the inauguration will take place on Tuesday, even though earlier it was expected to open on April 6, as announced by state transport minister Pratap Sarnaik.
Mumbai Metro's Operational Lines
Currently, Mumbai has four operational metro lines: 1, 2A, 3, and 7. With the launch of Metro Line 9's first phase, a new elevated stretch of about 4.5-5 km will connect Dahisar East to Kashigaon in Mira Road. Moreover, four stations, Dahisar, Pandurangwadi, Miragaon, and Kashigaon, are fully ready and will begin operations immediately after the inauguration.
Mumbai Metro Line 9
Metro Line 9 will act as an extension of the existing Red Line (Line 7), which runs from Gundavali to Ovaripada. Passengers using Line 9 will need to change trains at Dahisar East station to continue their journey on Line 7.
How will this new Metro Line Benefit Passengers?
According to officials, this new route will help reduce travel time, improve connectivity with Lines 7 and 2A, and ease traffic on the Western Express Highway. It will also provide relief to overcrowded suburban trains, especially for people travelling between Dahisar, Mira Road, Vasai, and Virar. However, there are still some issues with last-mile connectivity, as the ongoing roadwork near Dahisar check naka and the challenge of crossing the busy highway may make it difficult for passengers to reach the station easily.
Increase in Daily Trips
The metro operator plans to add 40 to 50 more daily trips, with the existing 305 services on Lines 7 and 2A. It is expected that daily ridership will increase by 50,000 to 100,000 passengers. Currently, Lines 2A and 7 together carry about 340,000 passengers daily.
