The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has issued an urgent weather warning for Kerala. It has predicted moderate rainfall along with thundershowers and strong winds in the next few hours.

Kerala Rain Alert & Check out the Districts Under Alert
Special alerts have been issued for districts like Kollam, Pathanamthitta, and Idukki. Residents in these areas should be prepared for sudden weather disturbances within the next three hours. The IMD expects light to moderate thundershowers at some places, along with gusty winds that may reach speeds of up to 40 kmph, and these conditions could cause minor disruptions, especially in open areas.
Changes in Weather Conditions in Different Parts of Kerala
The weather department has also warned that unstable weather will continue for the next three days. A thunderstorm alert, along with lightning, has been issued in several areas of Kerala from April 9 to April 11, 2026.
At the same time, a yellow alert for high temperatures is still in place for today and tomorrow. Some areas are expected to experience very hot conditions, with temperatures reaching around 38°C in Palakkad and about 37°C in districts like Kollam, Kottayam, and Pathanamthitta. The IMD has also warned that the combination of high heat and humidity can lead to sudden summer showers with lightning.
Advisory for Kerala Residents
For safety & precautions, people are advised to stay alert as sudden weather changes may occur. People should stay indoors as soon as they see lightning. It is also advised to avoid standing under trees or staying in open fields. Electrical appliances should be unplugged to prevent damage from sudden power surges.
