Despite the intense summer heat, unexpected rainfall has drenched the state, with the Meteorological Department forecasting a week of heavy showers and thunderstorms starting May 5. Accompanied by strong winds, these conditions have prompted the issuance of a yellow alert across numerous districts for the next four days. The alert is in response to a cyclonic circulation stemming from a north-south depression, affecting regions from south Uttar Pradesh through Madhya Pradesh to south Tamil Nadu, and extending to the northern parts of Marathwada and the interior of Karnataka, all at an elevation of 0.9 km above sea level.

With the weather patterns taking a turn, Dakshina Kannada district is expected to experience light to moderate rains and thunderstorms on May 5. Conversely, Udupi and Uttara Kannada districts are predicted to have dry weather. The forecast also includes thunderstorms with wind speeds reaching 40-50 kmph in Bidar, Kalaburagi, Yadgir, and Raichur districts. Meanwhile, places like Vijayapura, Bagalkot, Koppal, Belgaum, Dharwad, Gadag, and Haveri are likely to remain dry.
Thunderstorms and Dry Spells Across the State
In addition to the previous forecast, thunderstorms with wind speeds of 30-40 kmph are anticipated in Tumkur, Bangalore Rural and Urban areas, Kolar, Chikkaballapur, Ramanagara, Hassan, Bellary, Chitradurga, and Chikkamagaluru districts. However, dry weather is expected in Chamarajanagar, Davangere, Kodagu, Mandya, Mysore, Shivamogga, and Vijayanagar districts. The impending heavy rain is set to affect many parts of the state until May 10, with a significant number of districts, including Bellary, Vijayanagar, Davangere, Shivamogga, and others, bracing for wet conditions throughout the week.
Weather Alerts and Temperature Forecasts
The yellow alert initially covers 19 districts on Monday and will expand to 26 districts on Tuesday. However, thunderstorms are slated to occur in all remaining districts excluding Belgaum, Bagalkot, Dharwad, Gadag, and Haveri. Temperature-wise, no significant changes are forecasted across Karnataka for the ensuing five days. Bengaluru, along with its neighboring areas, will experience partly cloudy skies with chances of thundershowers and wind speeds of 30-40 kmph on both Monday and Tuesday. The temperature is expected to fluctuate between a maximum of 35 degrees Celsius and a minimum of 21 degrees Celsius during this period.
The state's weather dynamic showcases a mix of thunderstorms, heavy rainfall, and dry spells, significantly impacting various districts. As these weather conditions unfold, residents are urged to stay informed and prepared for the changes. With the Meteorological Department's alert and the forecast of varied weather patterns, it's crucial for people to be aware of the potential for heavy rains and thunderstorms, alongside the temperature stability in the coming days. This blend of weather activity underscores the unpredictable nature of the season and the importance of being vigilant.
