Karnataka To Introduce Ropeways at Nandi Hills, Madhugiri Fort, and More; Check Details

Karnataka is making big strides to improve tourism with the new Karnataka Tourism Ropeways Bill, 2024. This bill, a first in South India, aims to create eco-friendly ropeways at popular tourist sites, allowing visitors to travel smoothly and enjoy Karnataka's stunning landscapes with minimal impact on the environment. The government's goal is to make exploring Karnataka's natural beauty and historic sites easier and more sustainable.

Karnataka To Introduce Ropeways

State Tourism Secretary Salma K. Fahim shared that ropeways will soon be integrated into Karnataka's heli-tourism sites. Key locations for these new ropeways include the scenic Nandi Hills near Bengaluru, the ancient Madhugiri Fort in Tumakuru, the holy Anjanadri Hills in Koppal, and the beautiful Mallalli Falls in Kodagu. The state has called on industry experts to assess these sites. Feasibility studies and technical evaluations should be completed within three months, with plans for agreements with developers expected within the next six months.

Simplifying the Approval Process

One of the main goals of this bill is to speed up the approval process for these projects, as ropeway construction can often face challenges like land approvals and environmental clearances. The Nandi Hills ropeway project, for example, has been delayed due to land transfer issues and many required permits. Despite these challenges, Karnataka officials are optimistic and believe this bill will help cut through delays to bring these projects to life.

Growing Demand for Ropeways Across India

Ropeways are becoming popular across India, with many states already introducing similar projects. The Northeast region has led the way, drawing in tourists with breathtaking views of mountains and valleys. Across the country, there are 360 proposals for ropeways and cable cars valued at over $7 billion, reflecting the rising demand for eco-friendly and exciting travel options.

Karnataka's Bigger Tourism Vision

Karnataka's commitment to tourism doesn't end with ropeways. The state recently launched a tourism policy aiming to make Karnataka a top domestic tourism destination. This policy sets an ambitious target of attracting 48 crore domestic and 20 lakh international tourists over five years. The tourism boost is expected to create jobs and help Karnataka reach its goal of becoming a $1 trillion economy by 2032. Additionally, the One District One Destination scheme highlights top attractions in each district, supporting tourism and employment.

The Karnataka Tourism Ropeways Bill, 2024 is set to enhance Karnataka's appeal as a travel destination, making it easier for tourists to enjoy the state's natural beauty and rich history. With eco-friendly ropeways and a strong tourism policy, Karnataka is on its way to becoming a top destination in India, promoting economic growth through sustainable tourism.
