Railways Launch Emergency Quota on Vande Bharat Sleeper and Amrit Bharat-II Trains for Urgent Travel

Indian Railways has introduced an Emergency Quota for special trains such as Vande Bharat Sleeper and Amrit Bharat-II to help passengers who need to travel urgently. This decision was taken by the Railway Board and communicated to all regional railway zones to make ticketing fairer and more useful in sudden situations.

Fewer Reservation Categories Earlier

Earlier, these modern trains only had a few reservation categories, such as Ladies quota, Persons with Disabilities (PwD), Senior Citizens, and Duty Pass. With the new rules, passengers facing emergencies will also have a chance to get confirmed seats even when normal tickets are sold out.

Amrit Bharat Trains II

For Amrit Bharat-II trains that have seven or more sleeper class coaches, the Railways has set aside 24 berths under the Emergency Quota. These reserved berths mean that even when a train is nearly full, a small number of seats are kept to meet urgent travel needs, including medical emergencies or sudden official work.

Newly Launched Emergency Quota

In the Vande Bharat Sleeper trains, which are high-speed long-distance services, the Emergency Quota is split by class and day of travel. For example:

• In First AC (1A), a few seats are reserved (about 4 on weekdays and 6 on weekends);

• In Second AC (2A), more seats are held (about 20 on weekdays and 30 on weekends);

• In Third AC (3A), even more seats are kept under this quota (about 24 on weekdays and 42 on weekends).

Type of Reservation Quotas

This change means five types of reservation quotas will now be available in these trains: Emergency, Ladies, PwD, Senior Citizens, and Duty Pass. No other ticket categories, including RAC (Reservation Against Cancellation) are included under this system.

The Emergency Quota doesn't open for every passenger automatically. It is meant for people with real urgent needs and is likely to be allocated carefully by railway officials to ensure fairness.
