East Delhi is set to get better metro connectivity under the Delhi Metro's newly approved expansion plan. A new metro corridor between Shastri Park and Mayur Vihar Phase III is expected to improve travel in many crowded residential and business areas of the trans-Yamuna region. Chief Minister Rekha Gupta announced

the new corridor earlier this month during the 32nd Foundation Day event of Delhi Metro Rail Corporation.
Delhi's Shastri Park-Mayur Vihar Phase III Route
The Shastri Park-Mayur Vihar Phase III route is one of seven new metro corridors approved under Phase V (B) of the Delhi Metro expansion project. Together, these seven corridors will add around 97.158 km of metro lines and 65 stations to the network at an estimated cost of Rs. 48,204.56 crore. The proposal will now be sent to the Central government for final approval.
East Delhi Corridor Connections
The new East Delhi corridor will be around 13.197 km long and will have eight stations. According to the Delhi government, about 8.99 km of the route will be underground, while 4.207 km will be elevated. The corridor is expected to connect important areas such as Geeta Colony, Gandhi Nagar market, Kailash Nagar, Patparganj, New Kondli, and Mayur Vihar Phase III. It will work as an independent metro line and improve travel for daily commuters. Three interchange stations are also planned on the route. These include Shastri Park on the Red Line, Nirman Vihar on the Blue Line, and Trilokpuri on the Pink Line. These interchange points are expected to improve East-West and North-South connectivity across Delhi.
How will it Benefit Commuters?
The new line is likely to benefit people living in crowded areas of East Delhi, where many commuters currently rely on road transport. Busy areas like Gandhi Nagar and Geeta Colony see heavy daily foot traffic from traders and office workers, while Patparganj and Mayur Vihar have witnessed rapid residential growth in recent years. The corridor is also expected to reduce travel time and lessen dependence on crowded interchange stations such as Rajiv Chowk and Yamuna Bank for people travelling between East and Central Delhi.
Delhi Metro Phase V (B)
Other proposed corridors under Phase V (B) include Dhansa Bus Stand-Nangloi, Central Secretariat-Kishangarh, Samaypur Badli-Narela, Kirti Nagar-Palam, Jor Bagh-Mithapur, and Keshavpuram-Rohini Sector 34.
