Revanth Reddy recently met Union Housing and Urban Affairs Minister Manohar Lal Khattar in New Delhi and urged him to approve the Hyderabad Metro Rail Phase II project. During the meeting, the Chief Minister explained that Hyderabads fast growth and increasing traffic problems make metro expansion necessary for better public transport and smoother travel across the city.Hyderabad Metro Phase II ProjectThe proposed Phase II project includes seven metro corridors covering 122.9 km. The Telangana government has already submitted a Detailed Project Report to the Centre. The state wants the project to be developed as a joint venture between the Telangana and Central governments.How will it help the Urban Transport System?Officials believe the expansion will improve Hyderabads urban transport system and reduce traffic congestion in many growing parts of the city. The proposed corridors are expected to connect important residential, commercial, and emerging development areas, including the airport route and the proposed Future City region. The Telangana government has also recently taken full control of Hyderabad Metro Phase I from Larsen Toubro to ensure smoother implementation of future metro phases. Reports say this takeover was necessary to help move the expansion project forward and improve coordination with the Centre.Many Hyderabad residents and commuters have been waiting for the expansion for years.
