As Delhi hosts the AI Impact Summit at Bharat Mandapam, the Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is introducing artificial intelligence (AI) systems across its network to improve efficiency, passenger support, and safety. Union Minister for Housing and Urban Affairs and Power, Manohar Lal Khattar, visited the DMRC stall at the summit and reviewed its AI initiatives.

List of AI-based Initiatives by Delhi Metro
• One of the key initiatives is CHETNA, which stands for Chatbot for Efficient Travel and Navigation Assistance. It is a conversational AI system built using BharatGPT technology. According to DMRC, CHETNA helps passengers with route planning, fare details, real-time service updates, and ticket booking through both web and mobile platforms.
• DMRC is also upgrading its Complaint Management System using AI tools. In the first phase, written complaints are being processed automatically to reduce response time and improve tracking. In the second phase, DMRC plans to launch an AI-based voice bot on its helpline number 155370. This system will allow passengers to register complaints automatically, while complex issues will be transferred to human staff.
• To improve infrastructure safety, DMRC has installed AI-based monitoring systems for overhead equipment. On the Red, Yellow, and Blue Lines, a Pantograph Collision Detection System has been introduced. Pantographs, which are devices on top of trains that collect electricity from overhead wires, are now fitted with sensors to detect alignment problems.
• On the Pink and Magenta Lines, AI image analysis is being used to study video footage and identify issues in overhead wires. The Pink Line also has an Automatic Wheel Profile Monitoring System that checks train wheels using laser sensors while trains are moving.
• An Automatic Axle Bearing Temperature Monitoring System has been set up on the Pink and Magenta Lines to detect overheating. Additionally, an AI-based predictive maintenance system for track circuits has been introduced on the Green and Violet Lines to reduce delays and maintenance work.
