The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is working on a major expansion under Phase 4, which will bring 44 new stations across six important metro corridors. This project will extend the metro network by 112.32 km, improving connectivity in Delhi and the National Capital Region (NCR). Some of these priority areas are expected to start operating by March 2026, while the entire expansion is set for completion by 2028. Despite possible challenges in logistics, the project aims to ease traffic congestion, improve connectivity, and support the growing population in the region.
Project Details and Funding
The Delhi Metro Phase 4 expansion was approved in March 2019 and has an estimated budget of Rs 24,948.65 crore. This funding comes from government support, international loans, and private sector contributions. The new metro stations will integrate with the existing network, making travel smoother for daily commuters. The goal is to reduce dependence on personal vehicles and provide a more comfortable and efficient public transport option.
New Metro Corridors
The six new corridors under Phase 4 will extend important metro lines:
1. Aerocity - Tughlakabad (Golden Line): 15 stations over 23.62 km.
2. Mukundpur - Maujpur (Pink Line Extension): 8 stations across 12.55 km.
3. Janakpuri West - R.K. Ashram (Magenta Line Extension): 22 stations covering 28.92 km.
4. Inderlok - Indraprastha (Green Line Extension): 10 stations over 12.58 km.
5. Lajpat Nagar - Saket G Block: 8 stations along 8.38 km.
6. Rithala - Narela (Red Line Extension): 15 stations over 21.73 km.
