Bengaluru residents have received temporary relief, as the proposed increase in Namma Metro ticket prices has been stopped for now. The Bangalore Metro Rail Corporation Limited (BMRCL) had earlier planned to raise metro fares by 5% from February 9, 2026. However, after strong public criticism and protests from commuters, the

decision has been kept on hold until further notice.

The planned fare hike would have increased ticket prices across all metro zones by ₹1 to ₹5. Under the proposal, the minimum fare was expected to go up from ₹10 to ₹11, while the maximum fare would have increased from ₹90 to ₹95. BMRCL said the revision was part of an annual automatic fare increase system recommended by the Fare Fixation Committee (FFC).
Commuters Against Bengaluru Metro Fare Hike
Many Bengaluru commuters strongly opposed the move because metro fares had already been increased sharply in 2025. Passengers argued that another hike would make daily travel too expensive, especially for students and office workers. Social media was filled with complaints, and many people demanded that the government roll back the decision completely.
No Bengaluru Metro Hike for the Time Being
Following the backlash, BMRCL announced that the fare revision notice issued earlier would remain suspended until the board reviews the matter again. Officials clarified that the current metro ticket prices will continue for now, bringing relief to lakhs of daily passengers.
The issue has also turned political, with both BJP and Congress leaders blaming each other over the fare hike proposal. Some leaders have asked for a more affordable pricing system so that people continue using public transport instead of returning to private vehicles.
