To manage the expected passenger rush for the West Bengal Legislative Assembly elections 2026, the North Western Railway (NWR) has planned to run at least five special trains connecting Rajasthan with West Bengal.

Introduction of Important Services
Railway officials said that most trains on these routes are already fully booked, making it important to introduce extra services to handle the heavy rush. The elections will take place from April 23 to 29 to choose all 294 members of the state assembly. During this period, many migrant workers living in cities like Bikaner, Jodhpur, Ajmer, and Jaipur travel back home. Along with them, political supporters and traders also increase travel demand, especially towards eastern India.
Special Trains to Operate from Major Cities
To meet this growing demand, NWR will run special trains from major cities such as Ajmer, Bikaner, Jodhpur, and Jaipur. These trains will mainly run on busy routes like Howrah-Jodhpur and Ajmer-Sealdah. According to Amit Sudarshan, Chief Public Relations Officer of NWR, these services are based on passenger demand. He added that during the summer, travel to West Bengal usually increases, so extra trains are often introduced.
Weekly Special Train
Currently, one weekly special train is operating between Khatipura, Jaipur, and Howrah, running from April 7 to July 1, 2026, completing 26 trips in total. Officials also said that more trains to Kolkata and nearby stations like Sealdah and Dankuni may be added if needed. A proposed Khatipura-Dankuni train is still awaiting approval. However, these additional services are expected to reduce overcrowding and make travel smoother during this busy period.
