Pune Metro to Improve its Services Before Opening the Shivajinagar-Hinjewadi Line

Maha Metro plans to improve its current metro services before the new Shivajinagar-Hinjewadi Metro line becomes operational. To handle the expected passenger rise, the authorities are considering running longer trains and increasing the frequency of services on existing routes.

Pune Metro's Shivajinagar-Hinjewadi Line

The 23-km-long Shivajinagar-Hinjewadi Metro line is almost complete. Around 13 stations on this route are likely to be ready within the next two months. This new corridor will connect with the existing metro lines at Civil Court station, making travel easier for commuters. Maha Metro's Managing Director, Shravan Hardikar, said that both Maha Metro and Pune Metropolitan Region Development Authority are working together to ensure smooth and convenient travel for passengers.

Increase in Daily Ridership

Officials expect a significant increase in daily ridership, around 90,000 to 1 lakh more passengers, once the Hinjewadi line starts full operations. To manage this, a detailed study is being conducted to increase train frequency and upgrade current three-coach trains into six-coach rakes.

Maha Metro's Two Main Routes

Currently, Maha Metro operates two main routes: from Pimpri Chinchwad Municipal Corporation (PCMC) to Swargate and from Vanaz to Ramwadi. Metro services run from 6 am to 11 pm, with trains arriving every seven minutes during peak hours and every ten minutes during non-peak hours. Authorities are also focusing on making travel more convenient through an integrated ticketing system. A common mobile app and QR code-based ticketing are being developed so passengers can easily switch between different metro lines.

Moreover, infrastructure work is ongoing to improve connectivity. A foot overbridge is being built at Civil Court station to link it with the new line, expected to be ready in two months. Another interchange facility is being developed at Shivajinagar to ensure smooth transfers between routes.
