Rising Heat Across Telangana
Hyderabad and several parts of Telangana are witnessing a sharp rise in temperatures, with the India Meteorological Department (IMD) indicating a steady increase between April 10 and April 13. While the city may remain slightly cooler than the hottest districts, maximum temperatures are still expected to range between 36°C and 40°C, signalling the onset of intense summer conditions.
Across the state, multiple districts are likely to record 41°C to 44°C, pointing to widespread heatwave-like conditions during this period.
Government Advisory: Avoid Peak Afternoon Hours
In response to the rising temperatures, the Telangana government has issued a public advisory urging residents to limit outdoor movement, especially between 12 PM and 3 PM, when heat intensity is at its peak.
Citizens have been advised to:
- Stay indoors as much as possible during peak hours
- Wear light, breathable clothing
- Keep living spaces well-ventilated
The advisory highlights that prolonged exposure during these hours significantly increases the risk of heat-related illnesses.
Health Precautions & Heat Safety
Authorities have emphasised the importance of staying hydrated and maintaining a heat-conscious routine. Residents are encouraged to drink adequate water, include water-rich foods in their diet, and consider oral rehydration solutions where necessary.
Additionally, people are advised to avoid heavy, oily, or overly spicy meals during peak heat, as these may contribute to dehydration and fatigue.
Warning Signs To Watch For
Health officials have outlined key symptoms that may indicate heat-related stress and require immediate attention. These include persistent headache, dizziness, nausea, unusually high body temperature, dry or flushed skin, and fatigue.
In severe cases, symptoms such as confusion, rapid heartbeat, muscle cramps, or fainting may occur, requiring urgent medical care.
Districts Facing Severe Heat
Several districts, particularly in northern and interior Telangana, are expected to experience the highest temperatures. Areas such as Adilabad, Kumram Bheem Asifabad, Mancherial, Nirmal, Mahabubnagar, Narayanpet, Wanaparthy, and Jogulamba Gadwal are likely to see temperatures crossing 41°C, with some pockets nearing 44°C.
This pattern is expected to expand to more districts by April 13.
Extended Heatwave Outlook
Beyond the immediate forecast, weather observers have indicated the possibility of a longer heatwave spell extending into the third week of April. For Hyderabad, temperatures could hover around 40-41°C consistently over several days, increasing discomfort levels across the city.
What It Means For Hyderabad
While not the hottest zone in the state, Hyderabad is entering a phase of sustained high temperatures combined with dry conditions. The absence of rainfall and rising daytime heat means residents will need to plan daily activities carefully and prioritise heat safety.
Final Take
With temperatures climbing steadily and peak summer conditions setting in, the coming days will demand caution. Limiting outdoor exposure, staying hydrated, and recognising early signs of heat stress will be key to staying safe during this period.
