The Mumbai Metropolitan Region Development Authority (MMRDA) has reached an important construction milestone on Mumbai Metro Line 4. Recently, engineers successfully placed three huge steel bridge sections at Bhandup West during overnight work. These steel pieces together weigh about 325 tonnes. To lift and install them, workers used eight large

cranes and 12 multi-axle vehicles, along with careful planning to avoid disrupting the busy suburban area.
Completion of Operation in Less Time
The operation was finished faster than expected. What had been planned as a four-night job was completed in just two nights thanks to good teamwork and coordination between different teams. Around 35 engineers, more than 100 skilled workers, 70 traffic wardens, and 25 police personnel were involved to ensure everything went smoothly and safely.
Mumbai Metro Line 4 Project
This steel work is part of the larger Metro Line 4 project, which will run from Wadala to Kasarvadavali, covering more than 32 km and including about 30 stations. Once finished, this line is expected to greatly improve east-west connectivity in Mumbai, making it easier for people to travel across the city's suburbs and helping reduce road traffic congestion.
How Will it Help Commuters?
The project involves complex engineering because the spans are very heavy, the area is densely populated, and the installation requires precision and planning without disturbance to nearby residents. However, it is an important step toward completing Metro Line 4, which shows progress on one of Mumbai's major transport upgrades, aimed at offering faster, cleaner, and more efficient travel options for people living and working in the city.
