Gandhigram-Prayagraj Bi-Weekly Special Train has been Announced by Indian Railways

Indian Railways has announced the first passenger express train service from Gandhigram Railway Station, located in the heart of Ahmedabad. The new service fulfills a long-pending demand from residents who wanted better long-distance train connectivity from the city's western railway corridor. Until now, only two local trains serving the Bhavnagar side operated from the station.

The newly introduced train is the Gandhigram-Prayagraj Bi-Weekly Special, which will run on special fares. It is believed to be the first express train originating from a station in Ahmedabad other than the major terminals at Sabarmati and Kalupur.

Train Timings & Major Stoppages

The train will depart from Gandhigram at 5:20 pm every Sunday and Wednesday between May 31 and July 15. It will reach Prayagraj at 8:00 pm the following day. On the return journey, the train will leave Prayagraj at 4:15 pm every Saturday and Tuesday from May 30 to July 14 and arrive at Gandhigram at 3:30 pm the next day. During its journey, the train will halt at several important stations, including Chandkheda Road, Mehsana, Palanpur, Abu Road, Falna, Marwar Junction, Ajmer, Jaipur, Bharatpur, Tundla, Etawah, Govindpuri, and Fatehpur.

The train will have second-class, sleeper-class, and AC 3-tier coaches, offering travel options for different categories of passengers.

How will this New Service Benefit Passengers?

The introduction of this train is expected to improve travel options for passengers. However, it has also raised concerns about possible traffic congestion in several parts of the city. Residents of areas such as Navrangpura and Naranpura may experience traffic delays at railway level crossings as train movements increase through densely populated city areas.

Earlier, the Sabarmati-Bhavnagar train service was shortened to start from Gandhigram to reduce traffic problems caused by trains crossing busy roads. With the launch of the new express service, authorities will closely monitor its impact on road traffic and traffic management in the city.
