Chennai Metro Rail Limited has announced a special partnership with CSK Cricket Limited for the ongoing Indian Premier League 2026. As part of this initiative, free metro travel will be provided for all seven league matches at the M. A. Chidambaram Stadium, which is located close to the Government Estate Metro Station.
Chennai Metro's Free Rides
This free travel facility is only for passengers with valid match tickets. The first home match of the Chennai Super Kings at Chepauk will be played on Friday against the Punjab Kings. Fans can use either digital or printed match tickets to travel on the metro. Each ticket will be for one round trip; passengers can enter and exit the metro system twice. This arrangement is expected to make travel easier and reduce crowd congestion, especially on match days.
How will this initiative help?
To help fans return home after late-night matches, special metro services will also be arranged. After the CSK vs PBKS match on Friday, the last trains from Government Estate station will leave at 1:00 am towards both Wimco Nagar Depot and Airport stations. Passengers traveling on the Green Line will need to change trains at Chennai Central Station, and they should take note that entry to the metro station will close 10 minutes before the last train departs.
Moreover, the Metropolitan Transport Corporation will offer free travel on non-AC buses for cricket fans, which will be available from three hours before the match until three hours after it ends.
