A View From South Africa's Highest Cable Car

Table Mountain Aerial Cableway - a dramatic ride which offers wonderful views of Cape Town and its surroundings, both on the way up and from the summit.

Opened in 1930, and considerably redone in 1998 when fresh cars and dual cabling were introduced, the Table Mountain aerial Cableway has ferried more than 15 million people to the summit, a picturesque ride which offers incredible vistas of Cape Town and its surroundings.

This isn't an expedition for the vertigo sufferers or faint-hearted. Some 1,100 m (3,640 ft) of cable connect the Cable Station at the base on Tfelberg Road close to Kloof Nek with the Cable Station at the summit on the easternmost end of the Table mountain Flats. On their way up, the cars ascend steeply from an elevation of 300 m (987 ft) to 1,000 m (3,000 ft). The new cars can each hold 60 passengers, twofold more than what the old cars could carry.
