After a successful Bihu Performance of more than 11000 artists Assam is not set to create another Guinness World Record. With more than 20,000 performers, the Assamese Bodo community intends to present their traditional Bagurumba dance to a worldwide audience.
Through this huge dance performance, the community wants to showcase its rich cultural legacy. Chief of the Bodoland Territorial Region Pramod Boro revealed great plans to promote and popularized the Bagurumba dance at a global level.
The Chief of the Bodoland Territorial Region has stated that he chooses to highlight the cultural significance & emotional value of the auspicious Baisakh festival than concentrate on its monetary components.
The government is supporting the effort to bring the folk dance of the Bodo community to the international arena, and the Bodo Sahitya Sabha as well as other Bodo groups are already started preparations for this massive dance performance.

There is no fixed date has been announced by the government about when this mega Bagurumba performance will happen, probably next year. But as mentioned earlier the preparations have been started in full swing to make another record next year during Bihu.
About Bagurumba folk dance:
One of the most popular cultural expressions of the Northeast is the Bagurumba folk dance, which originates from the Bodo tribe of Assam. Now well-known throughout the world as people from different nations recognised it as a very artistic dance form.
The traditional dance has many moves in similarity to a traditional dance from Chinese culture, which is an astounding fact about it. Though it has its own identity and is the most authentic dance form which clearly represents Assam.
The indigenous Bodo tribe performs the cultural dance known as Bagurumba, which originated in Assam and Northeast India. It has been handed down from one generation to the next as a traditional dance and cultural heritage.

The Bodo women who perform the Bagurumba dance typically wear the dokhna (a fabric worn around the waist), the chadar (a long scarf placed over the shoulder), & the jwmgra, which is a traditional Bodo jewellery worn around the neck.
Not only the Bagurumba dance is a representation of Assam's and India's northeastern region's rich cultural heritage, but also it acts as a reminder to preserve and promote the indigenous cultures & traditions of Assam.
