Indian Railways is set to bring a new dimension to its services with the introduction of sleeper coaches to Vande Bharat trains by March 2024. Reports indicate that the railway authorities will kick off this initiative with an inaugural fleet of 10 Vande Bharat sleeper class trains, marking a significant expansion in the country's railway network. The move is expected to enhance travel options for passengers, particularly those undertaking long-distance journeys.

The introduction of sleeper coaches to Vande Bharat trains signifies a major leap forward in Indian Railways' efforts to modernize its services. These trains, renowned for their speed and efficiency, will now offer a mix of sleeping berths, including both AC and non-AC coaches, catering to diverse passenger preferences. The sleeper train sets, currently under construction, are designed to ensure maximum comfort for passengers during overnight journeys.

According to reports, the initial routes earmarked for these trains include the Delhi-Mumbai and Delhi-Howrah corridors, two of the busiest and most critical routes in the Indian railway network. The introduction of sleeper coaches to Vande Bharat trains is expected to significantly reduce travel times, with speeds reaching up to 160 km per hour, surpassing those of traditional Rajdhani trains.

The sleeper Vande Bharat trains, equipped with 16 coaches initially, will comprise 11 AC3 coaches, four AC2 coaches, and one AC1 coach. However, there's room for expansion, with the possibility of increasing the number of coaches to accommodate growing passenger demand. The Integral Coach Factory in Chennai is currently spearheading the design and manufacturing process of these state-of-the-art sleeper coaches, with a focus on enhancing travel experience and efficiency.
