The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation Limited (TANGEDCO) has announced a planned power shutdown in Chennai on Tuesday, January 20. This is due to scheduled maintenance work on the electricity network, which will briefly interrupt supply in several parts of the city.
Timings of the Power Cut
On that day, residents and businesses in many areas will experience a power cut from around 9:00 am to about 2:00 pm. If the maintenance work finishes earlier than expected, electricity may be restored sooner.
List of Areas to be Affected in Chennai
In Avadi, a large number of neighbourhoods will be affected. These include Moorthy Nagar, Vallalar Nagar, Mullai Nagar, Thendral Nagar, Padmavathi Nagar, Saraswathi Nagar, Masilamani Nagar, Etti Amman Nagar, Jack Nagar, and CTH Road areas. Other localities in Avadi scheduled for the outage are Balaji Nagar, Kaligambal Nagar, Srinagar Colony, Thamarai Street, Vrindavan Nagar, Choolambedu Main Road, Arjun Nagar, and Srinivasa Nagar Extension. The shutdown also covers Om Shakti Nagar, Valarmathi Nagar, Pachai Amman Street, Anna Street, TVK Street, Redhills Main Road, Vinayagapuram 10th Main Road, and Lenin Nagar.
In Mathur and nearby areas, the power cut includes First Main Road MMDA, Adaima Nagar, Kamarajar Salai, MCG Avenue, CKM Nagar, Tiruvalluvar Nagar, and Venkat Nagar. It also extends to Aavin Quarters, Milk Colony, Baktavachalam Nagar, and the Metro Water Pump House vicinity.

TANGEDCO advises people to plan their activities accordingly, especially if they rely on electricity for work or daily needs. Residents are reminded that outages like this are routine and necessary for maintaining and improving the electrical infrastructure so that the system remains reliable in the long term.
