The South Central Railway Zone's freight operations have generated Rs 10,000 Crore in income this fiscal year, marking yet another milestone. This was the Zone's quickest event since it started, occurring in just 9 months and 16 days.
Arun Kumar Jain, general manager of South Central Railway (SCR), reported that the zone recorded 13,787 crores in revenue between April & December 2022. Previously, on March 9, 2019, a freight income of Rs 10,000 Crores was reached in 343 days.
The freight sector has been performing strongly for a while now, and only a few days ago, SCR surpassed the 100 million tonne loading record. The loading trends are encouraging, and team SCR is working hard to achieve the highest loading before the end of the fiscal year.
Freight loaded:
Coal makes up the majority of the freight being loaded, accounting for more than 50% of the total, while cement makes up 26% of the loading. Food grains and fertilizers together contribute around 11% of the total payload, with the remaining goods making up the rest.

The majority of SCR's freight business comes from M/s. Singareni Collieries, which transports coal mostly to cement and thermal power facilities. Since Covid Lockdown, there has also been a significant rise in the loading of fertilizer and food grains, which helps to balance the nation's food supply chain.
The general manager gave a briefing on improving railway safety, noting that 64 locations have had new bridges built or existing ones renovated which clearly shows the safety concerns, and 48 manned level crossings have been removed.
He mentioned the 146 express trains that travel the zone during the crucial nighttime are supervised by security officers for the safety of the passengers trusting the railways.
The Operating & Commercial officers and personnel who make up the Business Development units that were established by the Zone are always trying to draw in new traffic and revive that which was diverted to other forms of transportation.

They have been assiduous in their work with freight clients, outlining the policy measures and incentives on offer to them. All of these initiatives have resulted in an expansion of the freight market on the whole.
The team at SCR, particularly the Operating and Commercial Wings, have been congratulated by Shri Arun Kumar Jain, General Manager of South Central Railway, for reaching the Rs 10,000 Crore revenue milestone in the freight sector. In order to make railroads the preferred means of freight transportation, he encouraged the team to keep moving forward at the same pace.
