Good news for adventure buffs! The Lake Pykara Boat House in the Nilgiris, Tamil Nadu, just got more exciting for tourists. Located near Udhagamandalam, the Pykara Boat House was closed to tourists for around three months. Now, it has reopened with some thrilling new additions.

New Additions at Pykara Boat House
Speedboat: A brand-new five-seater speedboat is now available for adventure seekers. Feel the wind in your hair as you glide across the pristine waters of Lake Pykara. This exciting ride will make your visit even more memorable. The speedboat costs Rs 4.5 lakh and promises a thrilling experience for everyone.
Water Scooters: For an adrenaline rush, hop on one of the two water scooters. These zippy rides are available for a 10-minute thrill, charging Rs 1,300 per tourist. The total cost for both water scooters is Rs 8.5 lakh. The water scooters offer a fun and exciting way to explore the lake.
Boosting Tourism
In a press release, the Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC), which manages tourism at the lake, announced that the road was built using money from the Special Area Development Programme. They also mentioned that to attract more tourists, a new "Zodiac Boat" and two high-speed jet skis will be added to the area.
The Tamil Nadu Tourism Development Corporation (TTDC) aims to boost tourist numbers by enhancing facilities at the Ooty Boat House and now, the Pykara Boat House. With these new additions, the allure of Lake Pykara is set to soar. The minister said to a reporter, "The number of tourists visiting the lake would increase further with the introduction of the new boats."
"We have been taking various initiatives to increase tourist footfall by improving facilities at the Ooty Boat House and Pykara Boat House," the minister noted. The new attractions at the Pykara Boat House are expected to draw more visitors and make the experience even more enjoyable.
Road and Access Improvements
TTDC Regional Manager M Guneswaran mentioned that the road to the Pykara Boat House was closed for the last three-and-a-half months due to road restoration works. Now that the road is open, reaching the boat house is easier and more convenient for tourists.
"Water scooters are available at Valankulam in Coimbatore and Muttukadu in Chennai. We have introduced them in the hills for the first time. Rs 1,300 will be charged for a tourist for a 10-minute ride. We have trained drivers for the water scooters," said Guneswaran.

To reach the Pykara Lake Boat House in the Nilgiris, follow these steps:
1. Distance: Pykara Lake is approximately 20 kilometers away from Ooty.
2. Transport Options:
- Public Buses: Regular public buses connect Ooty to Pykara Lake.
- Private Cabs: You can hire a private cab for a comfortable journey.
3. Route: The road to Pykara Lake takes you from Ooty to Mysore. The drive itself is idyllic, surrounded by lush greenery and thick forests.
4. Timings: Pykara Lake boating operates from 10:00 AM to 5:30 PM every day of the week.
