Prayagraj in Uttar Pradesh is all set to unveil India's longest ropeway across the sacred Ganges by 2025. The Prayagraj Mela Authority is steering a groundbreaking Rs 250 crore project, aiming to redefine the landscape and elevate the experience for visitors at the revered Sangam.

This momentous project is entering its crucial phase, as the groundwork kicks off with an extensive ground survey. The survey, based on a previously approved detailed project report (DPR), gained the green light after discussions between the Prayagraj Mela Authority and defense authorities. The vision of constructing a ropeway to offer visitors a breathtaking view of the Sangam was conceived in 2018, leading up to the 2019 Kumbh Mela. The government endorsed the proposal and DPR, and a route survey covered Triveni Pushp, Someshwarnath Ghat, over the Sangam, up to Ulta Qila of Jhunsi.
Despite initial delays for undisclosed reasons, the project is now being revitalized as a key initiative for Maha Kumbh 2025. Modifications to the DPR and alignment have been made, and the first phase of the ropeway is now planned from the Shankar Viman Mandapam temple near Bade Hanuman temple and fort to Arail bandh road.

Concerns were previously raised by the Army regarding the fort's security, resulting in objections to the initial DPR. However, the Ministry of Defence has now issued a No Objection Certificate (NOC). Arvind Kumar Chauhan, the vice-chairman of Prayagraj Development Authority, explained, "The ropeway's city-side station will be constructed near Shankar Viman Mandapam temple (near Hanuman temple). After crossing the fort, it will conclude at the second station at Triveni Pushp on Arail road."
The ropeway, spanning 2.2 km, will feature 15 cable cars, each accommodating 10 persons, significantly reducing travel time between Viman Mandapam and Triveni Pushp.

As part of the project, the Army will be compensated for the land used, and some land will be leased. Chauhan emphasized, "This unique project, blending religious faith and technology, will boost tourism in the city and introduce several amenities such as automatic doors, a restaurant, lockers, automatic ticket vending machines, parking facilities, restrooms, changing rooms, and escalators."
Prayagraj's upcoming ropeway not only promises improved transportation but also aims to enhance the spiritual and cultural experience for visitors, marking a significant stride towards modernization while preserving the city's rich heritage. The journey aboard this ropeway is poised to be nothing short of majestic, offering a new perspective of the sacred Ganges and the historic city of Prayagraj.
