The much-awaited Maan Hinjawadi-Shivajinagar Metro corridor has already missed two earlier deadlines. It was initially planned to begin operations by March 31, 2026. However, the launch has been delayed again due to incomplete automatic signalling work on the tracks. Important technical systems are still being installed, which has slowed

down progress. The project is now expected to open in phases by April 2026, after successful trial runs were completed in both directions.
Completion of Construction Work
Around 90 percent of the construction work has been completed. Officials have applied to the Commissioner of Metro Railway Safety for permission to begin commercial operations. They are hopeful that, once final approvals are received, metro services will start in phases by the end of April 2026. Officials said that the metro will begin operations in stages. In the first phase, only stations that are fully ready will be opened to the public. The remaining stations will start functioning later once all work is completed.
How is the Pune's Hinjawadi Metro Corridor Beneficial?
This metro corridor is expected to reduce traffic problems in Hinjawadi, one of Pune's biggest IT hubs. The area faces heavy traffic every day due to the large number of IT companies and office-goers. Once the metro becomes operational, it will offer faster, safer, and more comfortable travel for thousands of IT professionals and daily commuters. Moreover, it will also reduce travel time between Hinjawadi and central locations such as Shivajinagar. The project is seen as an important step in improving Pune's urban transport system and reducing long-standing traffic congestion in busy areas like Hinjawadi.
