New Updated Hand Baggage Rules Announced; Check Weight and Size Limits

The Bureau of Civil Aviation Security (BCAS) and the Central Industrial Security Force (CISF) have introduced updated hand baggage rules to make airport security checks faster and reduce congestion. These changes, applicable to both domestic and international flights, aim to improve the passenger experience as air travel continues to rise.

New Updated Hand Baggage Rules

One Handbag Rule

Under the new rules, passengers can now carry only one piece of hand baggage on board. This applies to all classes of travel and ensures quicker security screening. If passengers have more than one bag, the extra luggage must be checked in.

Weight and Size Limits

Carry-on bags must meet specific weight and size restrictions based on the class of travel:
- Economy and Premium Economy: 1 handbag weighing up to 7 kg.
- First and Business Class: 1 handbag weighing up to 10 kg.

The maximum size allowed for hand baggage is 55 cm (height) x 40 cm (length) x 20 cm (width). These dimensions help ensure smooth boarding and screening processes.

Grace Period for Bookings Before May 2, 2024

For tickets booked before May 2, 2024, a grace period allows passengers some flexibility:
- Economy Class: Handbags up to 8 kg.
- Premium Economy: Handbags up to 10 kg.
- First and Business Class: Handbags up to 12 kg.

For flights booked after this date, the updated rules will apply strictly, regardless of the travel class.

Improving Airport Efficiency

These new rules are designed to streamline airport operations. By limiting hand baggage and enforcing weight and size guidelines, the time spent at security checkpoints is reduced. This initiative aims to ease congestion, enhance safety, and improve overall travel efficiency.

Tips for Travelers

Passengers should be careful when packing to comply with the new rules:
- Keep your hand baggage within the allowed size and weight limits.
- Check in any additional bags to avoid delays.

By adhering to these rules, travelers can enjoy a smoother airport experience.

The updated hand baggage rules introduced by BCAS and CISF are a vital step toward improving air travel efficiency and security. As the aviation industry grows, measures like these ensure a safer, faster, and more organized travel experience for everyone. Prepare your bags wisely and look forward to a hassle-free journey.
