To stay affordable for the public and financially stable, Pune Metro is focusing on increasing its non-fare revenue. The Maharashtra Metro Rail Corporation Limited (Maha-Metro), which runs the Pune Metro, is exploring new income sources through station branding, advertising, property development, commercial leasing, and telecom infrastructure.

Reason Behind New Income Sources
According to Chandrashekhar Tambavekar, Additional General Manager of Maha-Metro, the aim is to provide safe, eco-friendly, and low-cost travel while keeping operations financially sustainable. By growing non-fare income, Pune Metro can expand without burdening passengers or public funds. He said that nearly 40% of Pune Metro's total revenue will soon come from these non-fare sources, reducing dependency on ticket sales.
Pune Maha Metro's Partnership with Metro Stations
Under its co-branding plan, Maha-Metro has partnered with 11 metro stations, including Nal Stop, Garware College, Phugewadi, Pune Railway Station, Ruby Hall Clinic, and Kalyaninagar. Companies such as Bajaj Finserv, Bajaj General Insurance, Ruby Hall Clinic, Chitale, Manikchand, Sahyadri Hospitals, and Sandvik Coromant have joined as partners. Advertising is displayed across trains, stations, digital screens, and passenger information systems.
Pune Metro's Branding
In October 2025, Bajaj General Insurance launched its new logo at Yerawada station, with over 500 employees travelling in a Pune Metro train decorated with the company's branding, showcasing Pune Metro's appeal for corporate promotions. Maha-Metro is also earning through leasing shops, kiosks, vending spaces, and short-term stalls at metro stations. It is developing real estate near stations and depots under the Transit-Oriented Development (TOD) model to utilise land effectively.
These efforts are already paying off; non-fare revenue increased from ₹19.8 crore in 2024-25 to ₹21 crore in 2025-26. Pune Metro also plans to lease elevated corridors for telecom fibre and install mobile towers, further expanding income sources. The metro currently serves 2-2.5 lakh passengers daily, with fares between ₹10 and ₹35.
