Kerala is set to enhance its travel and tourism sectors with the introduction of ten new Namo Bharat trains, previously known as Vande Bharat. These trains are designed to improve connectivity across the state and are equipped with air-conditioning and can reach speeds of 130 km/h, offering comfort and efficiency for inter-city travel. This initiative is expected to make Kerala's cities more accessible to visitors while promoting eco-friendly tourism by linking destinations within the state and neighbouring Tamil Nadu.

One of the key beneficiaries of this new service will be Kollam, a city known for its beautiful backwaters, dense forests, and scenic coastlines. The new train services will connect Kollam with several important locations, including Thrissur, Tirunelveli, Guruvayur, and Ernakulam. Kollam's inclusion in these routes highlights its tourism potential. The Kollam-Shenkottai line, which offers views of landmarks like the Thenmala Dam and Palaruvi Waterfalls, will provide passengers with a scenic travel experience, making their journey even more memorable.
The expansion of rail connectivity is designed to enhance tourism by linking key cities and pilgrimage destinations. Services from Kollam to Thrissur and Kollam to Tirunelveli will improve access to religious and cultural sites, with a potential extension from Thrissur to Guruvayur, one of Kerala's most famous temples. In addition, routes from Thiruvananthapuram to Ernakulam and Guruvayur to Madurai will cater to both tourists and local travelers, making it easier to visit major urban centres and tourist spots.
The fares for these new Namo Bharat trains are set to start at just Rs 30, including GST, making them an affordable travel option. There are also season tickets available for one week or one month, providing cost-effective solutions for frequent travelers. These affordable fares are expected to encourage more people to travel within Kerala and to Tamil Nadu, supporting sustainable tourism by making it accessible to a wider audience.
The Namo Bharat trains are designed to provide a smooth and quick travel experience, ideal for short to medium distances typical of regional journeys in Kerala. Despite potential brief stops at smaller stations, these trains are expected to operate efficiently, making them a valuable transport option for both locals and tourists.
Kerala's introduction of the Namo Bharat trains is an important step in improving connectivity and promoting tourism. By offering faster, affordable, and comfortable travel options, these trains are set to boost the state's tourism sector and improve the travel experience for both residents and visitors.
