The Haryana Mass Rapid Transport Corporation (HMRTC) has approved a plan to install new CCTV cameras and upgrade the public information systems (PIS) on Gurugram's Rapid Metro to improve safety and convenience for passengers. This decision comes as more people are now using the metro, showing a rise in daily ridership.

Rapid Metro from Cyber City to Sector 56
The Rapid Metro currently runs from Cyber City to Sector 56 along the Golf Course Road in Gurugram. Officials stated the board has approved a budget of ₹11.76 crore for the project, which will replace old cameras and communication systems with modern equipment.
Increased Ridership
Data from April to November 2025 shows that the Rapid Metro carried over 1.27 crore passengers, up from about 1.1 crore in the same period the previous year. In July 2025, the metro saw its highest monthly growth, with ridership increasing by nearly 23 per cent. Other months also recorded strong double-digit growth, suggesting that more commuters are choosing metro travel with growing confidence.
Supply of Trains in Two Phases
HMRTC officials explained that trains were supplied in two phases, five trains in the first phase and seven in the second, but the maintenance contracts for these trains have ended. To ensure better monitoring and safer operations, these maintenance contracts will be renewed, and the upgraded cameras and systems will be installed on the first five trains initially. If the results are positive, the upgraded equipment may be used more widely.
Officials also said the metro's financial performance has improved. Fare revenue increased by about 14 per cent to ₹23.37 crore, while operating costs grew by around 7.7 per cent during the review period. This difference shows that the metro is managing its costs more efficiently while still growing its income.
Moreover, the upgrades are part of efforts to make Gurugram's Rapid Metro safer, more reliable, and better equipped to handle increasing passenger traffic.
