To mark the 150th birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel, known as the Iron Man of India, a grand national celebration has been planned. This initiative aims to honor Patel's remarkable role in uniting 562 princely states into a single, independent India. The celebration will highlight Patel's efforts to strengthen national unity and pride.
Nationwide Celebration Plan
The celebrations are organized by the Surat-based organization 'Bharat-Bharati,' which has long worked to promote national unity. The entire event is divided into five phases and has been carefully planned five months in advance.
The main event is scheduled for October 31, 2025, marking Patel's birth anniversary. Born in Karamsad, Gujarat, on October 31, 1875, Patel played a crucial role in shaping modern India.
Key Events and Programs
A series of major events are planned to celebrate Patel's contribution to the nation:
- Sardar Ekta Sammelans: These gatherings will be held across the country, bringing together influential leaders such as the Prime Minister, Union Ministers, social and religious leaders, and experts from fields like literature, art, science, and industry.
- Statue of Unity Event: A special Mahasammelan is scheduled at the Statue of Unity, Gujarat's famous monument dedicated to Sardar Patel. This event will include leaders from the Gujarati community and representatives from various linguistic backgrounds across India.
- 'Bharati Bhushan' Awards: During the Mahasammelan, respected social leaders will be honored with the prestigious 'Bharati Bhushan' award for their contributions to society.
- March-April Introductory Meetings: Gujarati and other language-speaking community leaders from across India will meet to promote Patel's vision of a united India.
Independence Day Celebrations
On August 15, 2025, large-scale conventions will take place in 150 cities, representing different cultures and traditions. These events, called 'Mini India', will showcase India's diverse heritage.
A unique Raksha Sutra Bandhan event will also be held, symbolizing unity and brotherhood among citizens.
Gujarat's Cultural Initiative
The Gujarat government has already taken steps to promote cultural unity. The successful 'Saurashtra-Tamil Sangam' event in Somnath celebrated the connection between Saurashtrian Tamils and Gujarat.
Additionally, under the leadership of Prime Minister Narendra Modi, Saurashtra University has conducted research on Saurashtrian Tamils who migrated to Tamil Nadu during the late Middle Ages. These communities have played vital roles in various professions in cities like Tiruchi, Thanjavur, Kumbakonam, and Salem.

The celebrations will cover cities across India:
- 46 cities in North India
- 33 cities in South India
- 24 cities in Central India
- 27 cities in West India
- 20 cities in East India
According to Vinay Patraale, the founder president of Bharat-Bharati, this extensive plan reflects their goal of promoting unity and celebrating India's cultural richness.
For over two decades, Bharat-Bharati has worked to unite citizens of various backgrounds, strengthening India's social harmony. These 150th birth anniversary celebrations will continue that mission, reminding citizens of Patel's immense contribution to India's unity.
