Gurugram Metro Rail Limited (GMRL) has changed the alignment of the Old Gurugram metro project because the Regional Rapid Transit System (RRTS) route was moved to run along the Delhi-Jaipur highway instead of the older path.

Previous Plans
Earlier, the metro was planned to go from Old Delhi Road to the national highway using a narrower road called Rao Gajraj Singh Marg. But now, officials decided to shift the metro's path so it can serve more people in Old Delhi Road and Udyog Vihar. The new route will go up to the Delhi border near Dundahera and then turn toward Shankar Chowk on highway NH-48. Because of this change, the metro line will be about 1 kilometre longer than originally planned. GMRL is currently preparing cost estimates and tender documents, and the final project cost has not yet been set.
Delhi Metro's Final Station
Officials say the wider road from Hanuman Chowk to NH-48 gives more space for building metro tracks and stations, making construction easier and more efficient than the earlier plan.
The revised plan also makes it possible to build the metro's final station right next to the proposed underground RRTS station at Shankar Chowk. This will help create good connections between the metro, RRTS, and the Rapid Metro, with foot overbridges and underpasses to help travellers move smoothly between them. Some underpasses are already being built by DLF in that area.
World Bank Funding
The Haryana government may seek World Bank funding for this metro project, and officials expect the tender for phase two to be ready in about a month. Before this change, the RRTS train called the Namo Bharat was planned to pass through Kapashera Border and Old Delhi Road, but now it will follow the Delhi-Jaipur highway instead.
