Dwarka Expressway: Nitin Gadkari Shares Video of India's First Eight-Lane Elevated Road

Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Nitin Gadkari, has showcased the progress of India's first eight-lane elevated road, the Dwarka Expressway, in a viral video on Twitter. This 29-kilometer expressway connects Delhi and Gurugram and is a crucial part of the Delhi-Gurugram-SNB (Shahjahanpur-Neemrana-Behror) Urban Complex.

Developed by the National Highways Authority of India (NHAI) at a cost of Rs 10,000 crore, the expressway will feature 18 lanes, including eight for the main carriageway, six for service roads, and four for a dedicated high-speed rail and metro corridor.

The Dwarka Expressway will boast an array of features like an intelligent traffic management system, CCTV surveillance, variable message signboards, pedestrian walkways, cycle tracks, noise barriers, and extensive landscaping. It will also incorporate five interchanges, four railway overbridges, 13 major junctions, and 29 minor junctions. Significantly, this expressway will drastically reduce travel time between Delhi and Gurugram from 45 minutes to just 15 minutes, alleviating congestion on NH-8.

Expected to be completed by August 2022, the Dwarka Expressway will significantly benefit commuters and residents of Delhi-NCR who grapple with daily traffic and pollution issues. It is poised to stimulate real estate and industrial development along its route. Nitin Gadkari hailed the expressway as a "game-changer" for the region and a "milestone" for India's infrastructure sector, crediting Prime Minister Narendra Modi for his vision and support.

Gadkari's video update on the project garnered over 1.5 lakh views and thousands of likes and comments on Twitter. Users praised the minister and the government for their efforts, expressing eagerness to use the expressway. Some also raised concerns and suggested improvements related to lighting, safety measures, and compensation for farmers whose land was acquired for the project.

The Dwarka Expressway represents one of the many ambitious government initiatives aimed at enhancing connectivity and mobility across the nation. Other notable projects include the Delhi-Mumbai Expressway, set to be India's longest expressway with 12 lanes; the Bharatmala Pariyojana, targeting the development of 65,000 km of national highways; and the Sagarmala Project, designed to bolster port infrastructure and coastal development.

In addition to these initiatives, the government is actively promoting electric vehicles (EVs) and alternative fuels to reduce reliance on fossil fuels and combat emissions. Nitin Gadkari has introduced various incentives and policies to encourage EV adoption and production in India, advocating for cleaner and more cost-effective fuels like ethanol, bio-diesel, CNG, LNG, and hydrogen in the transportation sector.
