The Delhi Metro Rail Corporation (DMRC) is set to expand its reach beyond India. Minister for Housing, Urban Affairs, and Energy, Manohar Lal Khattar, announced that the central government will soon create a new body called Delhi Metro International Limited (DMIL). This new company will help form global partnerships and work to introduce India's metro network expertise in other countries.
18th Urban Mobility India Conference
Khattar made this announcement at the 18th Urban Mobility India Conference in Gurugram, a three-day event focused on improving urban development and public services. He also shared that the government plans to develop a new mass rapid transit system with DMRC to strengthen metro connections and provide safe and reliable transportation for citizens.
Make in India Initiative
He said that under Prime Minister Narendra Modi's leadership, India is moving towards self-reliance and aiming to become a developed nation by 2047, in line with the "Make in India" initiative. Khattar highlighted that India currently ranks third in global metro network coverage and

is expected to surpass the United States in the next three years, with China remaining the leader.
Setting Up of Delhi Metro Rail Academy
Khattar also announced plans to set up a Delhi Metro Rail Academy and a Centre of Excellence to promote innovation and training in metro services. He added that he would discuss infrastructure upgrades in Gurugram with Haryana Chief Minister Nayab Singh Saini, including creating Delhi-style world-class convention centres.
Urban Mobility Innovation
Union Minister of State for Housing and Urban Affairs Tokhan Sahu said India's urban transport is transforming into a key driver of economic growth, sustainability, and social progress. Haryana Additional Chief Secretary Raja Shekhar Vundru praised the state's urban mobility initiatives and emphasized the conference's role in encouraging collaboration and innovation. During the event, Khattar also launched three publications on green bonds, sustainable mobility, and e-bus development.
