Several parts of Delhi-NCR received rainfall on Monday, giving people some relief from the intense summer heat that had affected the region over the last few weeks. The rain, along with cloudy skies in some places, helped lower temperatures slightly and made the weather more pleasant for a short time.

Similar rainfall was observed in the city last week, indicating a gradual change in weather conditions across the region.
Delhi Weather Alert
However, despite the rain, humidity levels are still expected to remain high. Weather experts said that while the showers may temporarily reduce the heat, the moisture in the air will continue to make outdoor conditions uncomfortable for many people. According to the India Meteorological Department (IMD), light and scattered rain along with cloudy weather may continue in some parts of Delhi-NCR for the next few days. This may help control extreme temperatures for a short period. Still, sticky and humid conditions are likely to continue across the city.
Delhi Heat Alert
The IMD has stated that weather conditions may start changing again from May 13. The western disturbance currently affecting north India is expected to weaken, which could lead to clearer skies and stronger sunshine. As a result, temperatures in Delhi-NCR may rise again steadily in the coming days. In its latest monthly forecast, the IMD has predicted above-normal rainfall across India during May 2026. Rainfall for the month is expected to be more than 110 per cent of the long-period average for the country. However, some parts of east, northeast, and east-central India may still receive below-normal rainfall.
Heatwave Conditions in Other States
The weather department also warned that some regions could continue facing stronger heatwave conditions this month. Areas near the Himalayan foothills, parts of the east coast, and states like Gujarat and Maharashtra may see more heatwave days than usual.
The IMD further stated that climate conditions over the Pacific Ocean are slowly shifting towards El Niño, which could affect the upcoming southwest monsoon season in India.
