The Tamil Nadu Generation and Distribution Corporation (TANGEDCO) has announced planned power cuts on Friday, January 9, in many parts of the state, including Chennai, Coimbatore, Pudukottai, and Thanjavur, as part of ongoing maintenance work on the electricity network.

List of Areas to be Affected in Chennai
In Chennai, 30 areas will experience electricity supply interruptions from 9 am to 2 pm. These include neighbourhoods like Virugambakkam, Alwarthiru Nagar, Arcot Road, Periyar Nagar, Meenakshiamman Nagar, Lakshmi Nagar, and surrounding localities in Valasaravakkam and Porur zones. Residents and businesses in these parts should plan and make arrangements for the temporary outage.
List of Areas to be Affected in Coimbatore
In Coimbatore, the power cut is scheduled from 9 am to 4 pm. A number of areas will be affected, including Somayampalayam, Kalappanaickenpalayam, GCT Nagar, Kanuvai, KNG Pudur, Thadagam Road, Cheran Industries area, and others such as VMT Nagar, Teachers Colony, Namitha Colony, and parts of Kaniyur and Somanur. People living in these localities will experience the supply interruption during the maintenance period.
List of Areas to be Affected in Pudukottai
In the Pudukottai district, the outage will also be from 9 am to 4 pm, affecting entire areas like Karambakudy, Regunathapuram, and Neduvasal. Likewise, Thanjavur district will face power cuts from 9 am to 3 pm in places including Veeramarasampettai, Budalur, Achampatti, Aduthurai, Okkanadu Keelaiyur, and Narasingampettai.
Officials say these interruptions are necessary to carry out maintenance and improve the reliability of the power supply in the future. People in the affected areas are advised to charge essential devices, make alternate arrangements for cooking or work that needs electricity, and be prepared for the temporary outages on Friday.
