BESCOM Confirms No Planned Outages in Bengaluru as Cold Weather Approaches on 2 December 2025

The Bangalore Electricity Supply Company (BESCOM) provides electricity to eight major districts in Karnataka. To keep the power system running smoothly, BESCOM regularly carries out maintenance work. However, these repairs have also caused several long power cuts throughout 2025. With Bengaluru experiencing unusually cold weather due to an approaching cyclone,

many people are worried about possible outages.

No Planned Outages So Far

For December 2, there is good news. BESCOM has not announced any planned power cuts in Bengaluru or other districts under its network. This comes as a big relief for residents dealing with low temperatures.

BESCOM's Power Supply

BESCOM supplies electricity to areas like Bangalore Urban, Bangalore Rural, Chikkaballapura, Kolar, Davanagere, Tumkur, Chitradurga, and Ramanagara. Overall, it covers around 41,092 sq. km and serves over 2 crore people. The organisation is divided into four operating zones, Bengaluru North, Bengaluru South, Bengaluru Rural, and Chitradurga Zone, along with 9 circles, 32 divisions, 147 sub-divisions, and 534 section offices.

The last scheduled power cut happened on November 30. Since then, BESCOM has not planned any outages for two consecutive days.

BESCOM's Advisory for Residents

Even though no maintenance shutdowns were announced, BESCOM released an advisory warning people against electricity theft. According to the company, stealing power using hooks or other illegal methods is dangerous and can even lead to loss of life. Those caught will face fines and legal action. BESCOM advised residents to contact their nearest sub-division office for a proper connection.

Moreover, households can reduce their electricity bills by installing solar panels under the government's PM Surya Ghar: Muft Bijli Yojana. The scheme offers subsidies of 60% for systems up to 2 kW and 40% for systems between 2-3 kW. Depending on the plant size, subsidies range from ₹30,000 for 1 kW to ₹78,000 for 3 kW, helping homeowners save significantly on annual electricity costs.
