The Indian Railways has started three new weekly train services connecting Bengaluru in Karnataka with different parts of West Bengal. These trains began running from January 21, 22, and 24, 2026, as part of efforts to improve long-distance rail travel between the south and the east of India. All three
services start at SMVT Bengaluru and travel through several states before reaching destinations in West Bengal. Each train has 22 coaches and stops at KR Puram and Bangarapet stations in Karnataka along the way.
List of Trains to Run Between Karnataka & West Bengal
• The first new train (number 16523/16524) runs between Bengaluru and Balurghat. It leaves Bengaluru every Wednesday morning and reaches Balurghat early on Friday. On the return journey, it departs Balurghat on Saturday morning and arrives in Bengaluru by Monday early morning.
• The second service (number 16223/16224) connects Bengaluru with Radhikapur. This train leaves Bengaluru every Thursday afternoon and reaches Radhikapur on Saturday afternoon. On the return trip, it starts from Radhikapur on Sunday night and returns to Bengaluru by Tuesday evening.
• The third train (number 16597/16598) goes between Bengaluru and Alipurduar Junction. It departs Bengaluru every Saturday morning, arriving at Alipurduar on Monday morning. For the return trip, the train leaves Alipurduar on Monday night and reaches Bengaluru early on Thursday.
According to the South Western Railway, these new weekly trains will help students, traders, tourists, and other travelers by offering them more direct and convenient rail connections between southern and eastern India.
