Indian Railways is set to introduce a new Vande Bharat Express between Ahmedabad and Udaipur, enhancing rail connectivity between the two cities. This launch follows the successful electrification of the Ahmedabad-Himmatnagar-Udaipur route. The train is expected to begin operations in late January or February, offering a faster and more comfortable travel option for passengers.
Timings and Schedule
The new Vande Bharat Express will operate six days a week, excluding Tuesdays. It will depart from Udaipur at 6:10 am and reach Ahmedabad at 10:25 am, stopping briefly at Himmatnagar for two minutes. The return journey will leave Ahmedabad at 5:45 pm and arrive in Udaipur by 10:00 pm. The train's starting and ending point in Ahmedabad will be the Asarwa railway station.
Benefits for Passengers
Equipped with eight AC chair car coaches, the train promises a comfortable travel experience. The journey time between Ahmedabad and Udaipur will be approximately four hours, which is faster than the five-hour road trip. Passengers from the Mewar region will also benefit from easy access to Ahmedabad's airport, making it convenient for travelers.
Boost to Tourism and Connectivity
Tourism professionals in Udaipur have welcomed the Vande Bharat Express, expecting it to boost the region's tourism and pilgrimage sectors. Popular attractions like the Shrinathji and Eklingji temples are likely to draw more visitors, though stakeholders have suggested aligning the train's schedule with hotel check-in times and temple visiting hours for greater convenience.
Udaipur's Lok Sabha member, Mannalal Ravat, has praised the initiative and proposed extending Vande Bharat services to Indore and Surat. Such expansions could enhance regional connectivity and benefit more passengers.
While the train's launch is widely appreciated, some concerns have been raised about its schedule and stops. For instance, passengers have suggested adding Daungarpur as a stop to serve more people along the route.
The Ahmedabad-Udaipur Vande Bharat Express marks a significant step forward in improving rail transportation in the region.
