A new era of transportation dawned upon Agra as the Agra Metro embarked on its maiden journey on March 6th, inaugurated virtually by Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The Agra Metro project, which commenced in December 2020, is a significant step towards facilitating travel to renowned tourist spots like the Taj Mahal and Agra Fort.

The priority corridor of the Agra Metro boasts six metro stations, featuring a blend of elevated and underground designs. Notably, these stations include the Taj Mahal East, Captain Shubham Gupta, Fatehabad Road, Taj Mahal, and Mankameshwar Temple, adorned with vibrant paintings reflecting the rich 'Braj' culture, festivals, and local temples.
Operating from 6 am to 10 pm daily, the Agra Metro offers commuters affordable fares, with rates ranging from Rs 10 for up to 1 kilometer to Rs 20 for distances up to 2-6 kilometers. To enhance convenience, travelers can utilize a dedicated metro app to book tickets seamlessly and avoid long queues.

Moreover, the Agra Metro isn't just about commuting; it's about experiences. Commuters and tourists alike can relish birthday celebrations, engage in pre-wedding photoshoots, and embark on educational and group tours facilitated by the metro. Additionally, station premises feature eateries catering to the culinary needs of passengers and visitors.
The Agra Metro project, with a total length of 29.4 kilometers, comprises two corridors. The first corridor stretches from Taj East Gate to Sikandra, encompassing a blend of elevated and underground stations spanning 13.7 kilometers. Meanwhile, the second corridor, spanning 15.7 kilometers from Agra Cantt to Kalindi Vihar, aims to enhance connectivity and accessibility across the city.

The project's inauguration marks a milestone achievement in India's metro infrastructure landscape, with the Agra Metro being the third such project managed by UPMRC, following the successful implementation of metro rail projects in Lucknow and Kanpur.
The Agra Metro, with its swift and efficient services, promises to redefine urban commuting in Agra, fostering connectivity and accessibility to key landmarks and destinations. As the metro embarks on its journey, it stands as a testament to India's commitment to modernizing its transportation infrastructure, ensuring seamless travel experiences for residents and tourists alike.
