There will be a sudden change in Kolkata's metro services due to ongoing technical glitches. Kolkata's Metro Railway has decided to terminate 32 out of 272 Blue Line services at Tollygunge (Mahanayak Uttam Kumar station) instead of running them up to Shahid Khudiram. This decision comes after repeated disruptions over

the past six weeks.
Additional Details of Kolkata Metro Service Termination
On Thursday, operations were again affected when a train reversal attempt failed due to a technical fault, and services between Shahid Khudiram and Tollygunge were stopped from 12.20 pm to 12.50 pm due to a malfunction of track switches. Although normal operations resumed, delays of more than two hours led to overcrowding and increased waiting times. However, services have been operating between Dakshineswar and Shahid Khudiram after the closure of Kavi Subhash station on July 28; not all trains will reach Shahid Khudiram due to operational challenges. A total of 32 services will now return from Tollygunge to Dakshineswar at regular frequency every 5 minutes during peak hours and 7 minutes during non-peak hours to meet passengers' needs.
Initially, the issue started when a rake was being reversed towards the closed Kavi Subhash station, and a dried leaf got stuck at the switch point. However, the authorities fixed the issue within 30 minutes; the ripple effect of delays left many commuters stranded. Joydip Gupta from Bangur Avenue said he had to squeeze into an overcrowded train after waiting for over 15 minutes at Belgachhia. Student Anupriya Chakraborty said she missed her university class because trains were delayed.
Meanwhile, work has started to create a rake reversal facility at Shahid Khudiram to mitigate the challenges and improve metro service for commuters in the city.
