1. Pondy Bazaar
Among the most popular shopping destinations in Chennai is Pondy Bazaar located in T.Nagar. It is one of the busiest shopping areas in the city and offers a variety of products, ranging from footwear and clothing to leather bags and accessories. Holidays tends to see the place crowded, but that is integral to the entire shopping experience!

2. Thyagaraya Nagar
Referred to as T.Nagar, the large marketplace is home to many vendors and products ranging from steel ware to even jewellery products and electronics! The locality has more than shops in fact the place also has many commercial establishments. It is speculated to be the largest shopping district in India in terms of revenue. That is not very surprising considering T.Nagar is responsible for over 70% of gold sales in all of Chennai!

3. Mylapore
The area is showcased in many films as the place of 'maami'. It is one of the oldest neighbourhoods in the city and is known for its many temples. Once upon a time the region was said to have many peacocks earning the locality its name. However, today it is filled with many shops. The shops and exhibition halls sell a variety of products such as books, textiles, footwear and of course the trademark product of this locality; classical dance accessories and jewels.

4. George Town
This historical locality in Chennai has earned a name as one of the most popular shopping destinations in the city. The most symbolic street here is the Burma Bazaar, known for the sale of cheap electronic products and imports of various kinds such as perfumes, luggages and other accessories. The various other streets in the locality such as Broadway, Angappa Naicken, Mannadi, etc are known to sell various products ranging from stationery to textiles.

5. Koddambakkam
The best shopping destination in Chennai for purchase of handicraft and art items is Koddambakkam. A great place to shop for gifts and home decor, the market provides a variety of products at good bargains. Keep your eyes open for good quality textile products available at great prices too.
